São Tomé, September 28, 2026. Today, the National Electoral Commission (CEN) of São Tomé and Príncipe announced the official final results of the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, September 27. With a narrow margin of 17,551 votes for the MLSTP to 17,184 votes for the ADI, the MLSTP, led by Américo Barros, has won.
The other parties fared as follows: BASTA with 4,410 votes, MCI-PUN with 4,142 votes, Nossa Terra with 1,697 votes, PCD with 1,334 votes, and MDFM with 885 votes.
The MLSTP also won the two parliamentary seats elected by São Toméans living abroad, thereby securing a majority in Parliament. Américo Ramos, chairman of the defeated ADI party, has already congratulated the MLSTP on its victory today.
Numerous election observers, including those from the European Union, monitored the elections. The head of the European Union’s election observation mission described the elections as follows: “This is typical for São Tomé and Príncipe: The elections proceeded in an orderly, calm, peaceful, and tranquil manner.”
