President Carlos Vila Nova was re-elected in the presidential election on July 19, 2026, with 55.94% of the votes cast. He thus begins his second term, which will last another five years. Carlos Vila Nova ran as an independent candidate.
The ADI party’s leading candidate, Nito D’Abreu, received 41.42% of the votes cast. The other two candidates, Eugénio Tiny and Miques João, received 1.97% and 1.58% of the votes cast, respectively. The outcome of these free, fair, and democratic elections can be seen as a sign of stability and provides São Tomé and Príncipe with predictability for the coming years.
