On 19 December, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed an ambassador from the West African island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe to Bellevue Palace for the first time. With the presentation of credentials by the ambassador of the island nation, H.E. José Cassandra, to the German head of state, Germany and São Tomé and Príncipe officially established diplomatic relations. This step is also intended to further expand bilateral economic relations, particularly in tourism and, in future, also in energy supply.
The pictures show impressions of the day, with the Ambassador of São Tomé and Príncipe, H.E. José Cassandra, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of São Tomé and Príncipe, Dr. Stephan Knabe.
