Germany and São Tomé e Príncipe maintain close and friendly diplomatic relations. The German Embassy in Libreville is the first point of contact for these political relations.
The Consulate Berlin/Potsdam of São Tomé e Príncipe provides support. EU citizens do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to 15 nights to São Tomé e Príncipe. Further rules here.

Political relations and cooperation
Political relations between São Tomé e Príncipe and Germany are based on partnership, and cooperation with São Tomé e Príncipe in international organisations is also close. Many of today’s politicians, senior civil servants and businessmen (such as the former president) studied in the former GDR. One of the country’s largest factories also emerged from a former German cooperation project.
Economic relations and education
Economic relations with Germany still have a lot of potential for expansion. However, some German travel companies offer organised group and individual trips. With the support of the Stephan Knabe Foundation, it was possible to establish a German department at the University of Sao Tomé and Príncipe. There are already 25 students enrolled; the subject German is integrated into the curricula.

Competent German embassy
Germany’s competent embassy is located in Libreville, the capital of Gabon. The Embassy is also responsible for all political relations and diplomatic representation.
